Do You See What Other People See in You?

Uncategorized Nov 21, 2023

“I don’t understand why I’m not getting promoted when I’m working harder than the people who are.”

 Or

“I am not getting recognized for what I’m doing at work. I think it’s my age.”

Or

“I have a couple of team members who just won’t get their work done.”

I hear these a lot.

All of them have a common theme and a solution.

πŸ’‘ Common Theme: It’s difficult to improve a situation when you feel you don’t have any control over it or power to change it. This is the case in all these scenarios and most situations that frustrate us.

πŸ’‘ Solution: We all have a blind spot. When you grow your awareness of how you are being perceived by others, you gain power to self-regulate your behavior to show up more effectively and self-empowered. Then good management techniques make better sense, and you execute them freely.

It’s astounding what we don’t see in ourselves.

When I was a new leader, I assumed that all people worked with the same dedication that I did. When they didn’t, I was disappointed and got frustrated.

βœ… After I learned the skill of self-empowerment through a fierce moral inventory, I realized that I had been driving them to quiet quit and was able to connect their personal values to what they were doing. From there with compassion and recognition they became a meaningful part of the team.

πŸ™Œ If you want to see what others see in you, I’ll here's a link to my most requested tool: The Get Valued, Hired and Promoted Checklist - Regardless of Your Title, Age or Situation.

If seven or more items on this list are checked, you likely have a blind spot that is affecting your efficacy. This will help you understand what that is.

The Still Space Podcast #49 Are Your Values Derailing Your Leadership and Your Life? Values are the guiding principles that shape our lives and dictate how we treat others in our personal and professional circles. They help us determine the decisions we make, the actions we take, and the relationships we form. Values can be defined as beliefs, attitudes, or opinions that someone has about something. They can also be defined as the things that are important to someone and guide their behavior. Values are important because they provide a sense of direction and purpose in life. They help us to know what is right and wrong. Without values, we get lost and without direction. This happens when we are stuck. In this episode we explore how to get back to your values to feel fulfilled and position yourself at you best. When we have a clear set of values, we can more easily decide what is the right thing to do in any given situation. Values help us to know ourselves better and to live a more authentic life.
